More Than an Adjustment: How MomWell Approaches Prenatal and Pediatric Chiropractic Care Differently

MomWell Chiro Co. is an award-winning prenatal, postpartum, pediatric, and family chiropractic practice located in North Fort Worth, Texas, 76244. Our Webster-certified chiropractors have additional training in Spinning Babies principles, craniosacral therapy, and Dynamic Body Balancing to provide personalized care for pregnant women, babies, children, and families throughout North Fort Worth and the surrounding DFW area.

When most people picture a chiropractic appointment, they imagine a quick adjustment.

You walk in, lie down, get adjusted, and leave.

That may be what some chiropractic appointments look like, but it is not how we approach prenatal or pediatric care at MomWell Chiro Co.

Pregnancy, birth, infancy, and childhood all involve tremendous changes in the body. We believe care during these stages should look beyond the spine alone.

At MomWell, we combine chiropractic care with soft tissue work, functional movement, pregnancy-specific positioning, Spinning Babies education, craniosacral therapy training, and Dynamic Body Balancing.

This additional training helps us take a more complete look at how the spine, cranium, fascia, muscles, pelvis, and the rest of the body are moving and working together.

We Look Beyond the Place That Hurts

Pregnancy discomfort is not always as simple as one tight muscle or one joint that needs to be adjusted.

A woman may come into our office because her right hip hurts, but the right hip is only one part of the picture.

We may also look at:

  • How she is standing

  • Whether she consistently shifts her weight to one side

  • How her pelvis moves while she walks

  • Tension through her glutes or hip flexors

  • Movement through her rib cage

  • How she gets up from a chair

  • Whether certain movements feel easier on one side

  • How previous injuries may be affecting her pregnancy

  • What her daily activities look like

  • Whether she regularly carries another child on one side

Rather than only asking, “Where does it hurt?” we also ask:

“What is the rest of the body doing around that discomfort?”

That broader question helps us choose care and home recommendations that are more personalized to the person in front of us.

How Spinning Babies Training Shapes Our Approach

Many pregnant women first hear about Spinning Babies from their doula, midwife, childbirth educator, or another mom.

Spinning Babies emphasizes anatomy, body balance, movement, and positioning during pregnancy and birth. The approach encourages a deeper understanding of how the pregnant body moves and how tension or restriction may affect comfort and mobility.

Dr. Abby has completed extensive Spinning Babies education and is currently one course away from completing the requirements to become a Spinning Babies Aware Practitioner.

We want to be transparent about that distinction. MomWell does not currently claim the formal Spinning Babies Aware Practitioner designation.

However, the training Dr. Abby has already completed has significantly influenced the way we assess movement, think about body balance, and make pregnancy-specific recommendations.

During your visit, that may mean we consider:

  • How the pelvis and surrounding tissues are moving

  • Whether one side of the body appears more restricted

  • How the rib cage, hips, and pelvis work together

  • Which movements feel comfortable or limited

  • How everyday positions may be contributing to tension

  • Which pregnancy-specific movements may be appropriate at home

  • How your body responds to different resting or labor-preparation positions

We do not perform techniques with the promise of turning a baby or creating a specific birth outcome.

Instead, we use our training to better support the pregnant person’s movement, comfort, mobility, and body awareness.

What Does Body Balance Mean During Pregnancy?

You may hear the word “balance” often in prenatal care.

Balance does not mean making the body perfectly symmetrical. Human bodies are naturally asymmetrical, and most of us have a side we favor.

At MomWell, body balance is more about helping your body move with fewer unnecessary restrictions or compensations.

For example, we may look at whether you can:

  • Shift your weight comfortably in both directions

  • Rotate through your hips and rib cage

  • Walk without consistently guarding one side

  • Move between sitting and standing comfortably

  • Use a variety of resting or labor positions

  • Move without excessive tension through your hips, abdomen, or ribs

We are not trying to force your body into a perfect shape.

We are looking for ways to give your body more comfortable movement options as your pregnancy progresses.

Our Craniosacral Therapy Training

One of the ways MomWell differs from a traditional chiropractic office is our additional craniosacral therapy training through Dynamic Body Balancing.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on bodywork approach that pays close attention to movement and patterns of tension throughout the body.

The words “craniosacral therapy” may sound complicated, but the hands-on work itself is typically very light and gentle.

Our craniosacral therapy training has expanded the way we assess the relationship between areas such as the:

  • Head and cranium

  • Jaw

  • Neck and shoulders

  • Rib cage

  • Spine

  • Sacrum

  • Pelvis

  • Hips

  • Fascia and connective tissues

Rather than viewing each of these areas as completely separate, craniosacral therapy training helps us consider how tension or movement in one part of the body may influence another.

For pregnant patients, this gives us additional tools for addressing whole-body patterns of tension alongside chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work, and functional movement.

For babies and children, it allows us to use gentle, age-appropriate techniques while carefully following the child’s cues and comfort level.

Not every patient receives craniosacral therapy during every appointment. Your care is always based on your individual needs, preferences, comfort, and what is appropriate for you or your child.

What Is Dynamic Body Balancing?

Dynamic Body Balancing, often shortened to DBB, is a hands-on approach that brings together craniosacral therapy, myofascial techniques, gentle bodywork, and movement integration.

Our Dynamic Body Balancing training has given us additional ways to assess patterns of tension throughout the body rather than focusing only on the area where symptoms are being felt.

For example, tension through the rib cage may influence how someone breathes or moves through the upper body. Tension through the hips or pelvis may affect walking, resting positions, or the way someone transitions between sitting and standing.

With babies, tension through the neck, jaw, shoulders, or cranium may be part of a larger movement pattern that deserves a more complete assessment.

Dynamic Body Balancing does not replace chiropractic care. It gives us another set of tools that may be incorporated into a patient’s appointment when appropriate.

What Does Craniosacral-Informed Care Look Like?

Craniosacral-informed techniques use light touch and careful attention to movement and tension throughout the body.

For a pregnant patient, this may include gentle work around the:

  • Head and neck

  • Jaw

  • Shoulders

  • Rib cage

  • Spine

  • Sacrum

  • Pelvis

  • Hips

The patient remains clothed, and care is adapted to her trimester, comfort level, and preferences.

For babies and children, the touch is especially gentle. We carefully watch the child’s facial expressions, breathing, movement, and other cues throughout the appointment.

We do not believe in forcing a baby or child to remain in a position that is upsetting or uncomfortable.

Pediatric bodywork should be calm, patient, and responsive.

How Does This Training Affect a Prenatal Appointment?

Additional training does not mean every patient receives every technique at every appointment.

It means we have more tools available when deciding how to care for you.

A MomWell prenatal visit may include:

  • A conversation about how your pregnancy is progressing

  • Posture and functional movement assessment

  • Webster-certified chiropractic care

  • Gentle chiropractic adjustments

  • Soft tissue or muscle work

  • Pregnancy-specific stretches

  • Cupping when appropriate

  • Kinesiology taping

  • Spinning Babies-informed movements or positions

  • Craniosacral therapy techniques

  • Dynamic Body Balancing

  • Recommendations for sleeping, sitting, lifting, or exercising

  • Collaboration with your existing birth team

What we do depends on what your body needs, what feels comfortable to you, and what is appropriate during that stage of pregnancy.

No two visits have to look exactly the same.

We Do Not Use a One-Size-Fits-All Pregnancy Protocol

Pregnant women are sometimes given a standard list of stretches or exercises simply because they are pregnant.

But the movement that feels wonderful to one person may not be the right choice for another.

A deep lunge may feel relieving for one patient and aggravating for someone experiencing pubic bone pain.

A wide-legged position may feel comfortable for one person and unstable for another.

One woman may need more mobility in a certain area, while another may benefit from additional stability and strength.

Our training helps us think more carefully about those differences.

Instead of automatically handing every patient the same exercise sheet, we consider:

  • Where you feel discomfort

  • Which movements trigger it

  • How your body responds during the appointment

  • What activities you already do

  • Whether you are caring for other children

  • How far along you are

  • What your daily routine looks like

  • What type of support feels realistic for you

  • Whether your pregnancy provider has given you any restrictions

Your recommendations should make sense for your actual body and life, not just look good on a generic handout.

What About Baby’s Position?

Many pregnant women first become interested in Spinning Babies or body-balancing techniques because they are concerned about their baby’s position.

It is important to be thoughtful and honest about this.

A chiropractor cannot guarantee that an adjustment, stretch, body-balancing technique, or movement will cause a baby to change position.

We do not manually turn babies, and chiropractic care does not replace medical procedures such as an external cephalic version.

What we can do is assess and support the pregnant patient’s muscles, joints, movement, comfort, and mobility.

We may also offer pregnancy-appropriate positions or movements based on our training, provided they are suitable for your individual situation.

Questions about fetal position, pregnancy complications, or medical birth planning should always be discussed with your OB or midwife.

How Our Craniosacral Therapy Training Shapes Pediatric Care

Our Dynamic Body Balancing and craniosacral therapy training also influence the way we care for babies and children.

Parents may bring their babies into our office because they have noticed:

  • A preference for looking in one direction

  • Difficulty turning the head both ways

  • Tension through the neck, jaw, or shoulders

  • Uneven movement patterns

  • Discomfort in certain positions

  • Torticollis or head-shape concerns

  • Body tension noticed during feeding

  • Difficulty becoming comfortable during tummy time

  • A preference for feeding on one side

Because babies cannot tell us what feels tight or uncomfortable, pediatric care should be gentle, patient, and responsive to their cues.

Our craniosacral therapy training gives us additional tools for observing and gently working with patterns of tension through the cranium, jaw, neck, spine, fascia, and the rest of the body.

We look at the baby as a whole rather than only focusing on one area.

That may include looking at:

  • How the baby turns the head

  • Whether movement appears easier in one direction

  • Tension through the jaw, neck, or shoulders

  • The way the baby moves the arms and legs

  • Comfort in different positions

  • How the spine and pelvis are moving

  • Patterns noticed during feeding or tummy time

Pediatric chiropractic care and craniosacral therapy do not replace your pediatrician, lactation consultant, speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, or physical therapist.

Our role is to assess and support musculoskeletal movement, body tension, and comfort while collaborating with the other professionals involved in your child’s care.

Is Craniosacral Therapy the Same as Chiropractic Care?

They are not the same, but they may complement one another.

Chiropractic care focuses on the function and movement of the spine, pelvis, and other joints in the body.

Craniosacral therapy uses gentle touch to assess and work with patterns of movement and tension involving the cranium, spine, sacrum, fascia, and surrounding tissues.

At MomWell, craniosacral therapy training does not replace our chiropractic education. It expands the way we assess the body and gives us additional gentle techniques that may be incorporated into care.

Depending on the patient, an appointment may include chiropractic care, craniosacral-informed bodywork, soft tissue techniques, movement recommendations, or a combination of these approaches.

Collaboration Is Part of Our Approach

We believe pregnant women, moms, babies, and children often benefit most when providers communicate and work together.

Depending on your needs, your care team may include:

  • An OB

  • A midwife

  • A doula

  • A pelvic floor physical therapist

  • A lactation consultant

  • A pediatrician

  • A speech-language pathologist

  • A pediatric physical or occupational therapist

  • A chiropractor

Each professional brings a different area of training and expertise.

MomWell’s role is not to replace the rest of your care team. Our role is to contribute musculoskeletal, movement, and bodywork support while recognizing when another provider’s expertise is needed.

More Training Gives Us More Ways to Listen

The greatest benefit of additional training is not simply being able to name more techniques.

It is learning to observe more carefully.

Our Spinning Babies education, craniosacral therapy training, and Dynamic Body Balancing training give us more ways to notice how the body is moving, more questions to ask, and more options for adapting care to each patient.

At MomWell, we want you to feel like your appointment was designed for you, not for a generic pregnant body or a one-size-fits-all pediatric protocol.

That means listening to what you are experiencing, respecting your boundaries, explaining our recommendations, and adjusting our approach as your needs change.
